Buying Wall-To-Wall Bathroom Rugs Doesn't Have To Be A Hassle!

Wall To Wall Bathroom Rugs

Like most people, you have probably purchased typical "bathroom rug sets" in the past -- these generally include a funny-looking U-shaped rug piece that fits around the toilet, a mat to be placed near the tub and perhaps another smaller mat to be located near your bathroom sink -- and let's not forget the little furry piece that fits over the toilet seat cover!

But many people today are opting for wall-to-wall bathroom rugs instead of small mats. One big reason why they're doing this is simply because bathroom rug sets don't really provide total floor coverage -- they're really just small, special-purpose area rugs. If you are ready to upgrade the look of your bathroom, then wall-to-wall bathroom rugs are an absolute must.

If you are looking to purchase wall-to-wall bathroom rugs, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind. Most of all, remember that your bathroom is not like other rooms in your house -- and bathroom rugs should be designed to function in this very special environment.

For example, because many bathrooms possess tile floors which can become very slippery when wet, you need to make sure that your wall-to-wall bathroom rugs have a non-skid texture underneath. Rugs designed for other rooms in your house may not be suitable for use in your bathroom as they may have a very smooth texture, and not grip your floor surface properly.

Another characteristic of good wall-to-wall bathroom rugs is that they should be capable of absorbing a fair amount of water. Rugs that are very thin, or which are made from synthetic fibers (which will not absorb water) should be avoided at all costs.

Should your wall-to-wall bathroom rugs be attached to your bathroom floor -- nailed into place? I would avoid doing this, and here's why: As any mom will tell you, people oftentimes get sick in bathrooms. If your wall-to-wall bathroom rug becomes soiled, you need to be able to clean it. If you cannot remove your wall-to-wall bathroom rugs for cleaning, then you will be forced to use some other method to get it clean.

In addition to cleaning, it is also helpful to be able to take up your wall-to-wall bathroom rugs if they become too wet. Even if your wall-to-wall bathroom rug is too large to place into a clothes dryer, you can still hang it up on a clothesline, or drape it over a porch railing to dry. It is also important, should your bathroom rugs become wet, to be able to remove them to allow the underlying floor surface to dry properly. So I would again advise you against permanently attaching your wall-to-wall bathroom rug to your bathroom floor.

Should you install padding underneath your wall-to-wall bathroom rugs? All other things being equal, I would advise against doing this -- instead choose a wall-to-wall bathroom rug that is thick enough to provide adequate water solution and comfort when you are walking on it, without the need for a pad underneath. If you install pads underneath your wall-to-wall bathroom rugs, then you will again have this same issue if you need to clean your pad (for example, urine stains can penetrate any rug right through to the padding) or dry it off -- it just amounts to a lot of unnecessary hassle and time-consuming effort.
